Takeaways from the Atelier

This rigorous curriculum at The Madrid Academy of Art followed a traditional, skills-based progression, beginning with intensive drawing and later advancing into painting.

Starting from sight-size method studies, to cast and advanced figure drawing, focusing on accurate proportion, gesture, and precise control of value and form.

Later, the transition into the painting module began with monochromatic grisaille to understand form and light, before moving to full color. Building work through deliberate layers, from lean underpainting to final rich glazes.

This disciplined approach aimed to instill a deep understanding of composition, color theory, and paint handling, providing a structured and powerful framework to build from.
