ABOUT
Maryam Hasanova is a visual artist working from Melbourne, Australia. Her practice is an active dialogue between classical training and a contemporary, cross-cultural perspective, evolving from precise impressionist studies toward a more expressive and abstracted visual language.
Born in Baku in 1999, she began formal studio education at age six, building a foundation through still life and landscape studies as well as reproductions of Impressionist masters.
Following a hiatus after relocating to Melbourne in 2015, Maryam's reconnection to art was a deliberate yet non-linear journey. Moving to Spain in 2022, this reconnection crystallized as she immersed herself in the city's rich artistic profile and the broader cultural landscape.
Formally reengaging with her practice, Maryam completed a six-month atelier course at the Madrid Academy of Art. She remained in Madrid until 2026, developing her art while working as a Language and Culture Assistant at bilingual schools in the city and completing her Spanish and Latin American Culture studies.
Now back in Melbourne, her current work focuses on bridging the discipline of her academic past with a more intuitive and expressive approach.
